Data Preparation for Tableau
Faster editing, masking, and distribution of data
Tableau offers a family of interactive data visualization tools for business intelligence. However, nothing can be effectively analyzed or visualized until the data has been located, captured, refined, grouped, secured, and otherwise prepared for visualization(s).
The IRI Software offers powerful, affordable data blending and preparation for Tableau in a comprehensive data management environment supporting data discovery (and classification), integration (ETL), migration, governance, and analytics.
Use the IRI CoSortSoftware – or the larger Voracityy-Platform based on CoSort or Hadoop – for extracting, filtering, transforming, and protecting data from more than 150 different sources. Specifically, the Sort Control Language programSortCLwhich was originally developed for CoSort, selects, sorts, joins, aggregates, maps, masks, and formats data into a subset of CSV, XML, RDB table, and other custom targets outside the BI layer. Tableau easily consumes these results.
Providing data in this manner bypasses the need for Tableau to integrate and reconcile the raw data, which would require significantly more time to develop and execute. Centralizing data dispute or munging activities also eliminates the need for data processing in each report and the associated data synchronization issues.
In this article Find an example of using CoSort before Tableau to improve time-to-visualization by 8x.
