Take a closer look at CoSort

Sorting is just the beginning

The Sort Engine

Since four decades defines IRI CoSort the state of the art in Big Data Sorting and its associated manipulation techniques. From advanced algorithms to automatic memory management, from multicore utilization to I/O optimization – there is no more powerful provider for production data processing than CoSort.

CoSort was the first commercial sort package developed for open systems: CP/M in 1978, MS-DOS in 1982, Unix in 1985, and Windows in 1995. CoSort has repeatedly been rated the fastest commercial sort product for Unix and was also rated by PC Week as the „most powerful“ sort under Windows.

Being first and fastest are just two reasons why CoSort is „The Open Systems Standard“ in sort technology. For more details on the engines' performance, please visit here.

Data transformation, cleaning, and reporting

For many CoSort users, speed is more than just the number of gigabytes you can sort in a minute. It’s also about how much data preparation, security, and analytical work they can do in the same place and while moving through your data. CoSort uses an award-winning, open 4GL data definition and transformation program called SortCL, to several Activities to carry out and consolidate.

Since SortCL can also perform all these tasks at once, it is the standard manipulation and mapping program in the IRI Voracity ETL and Data management platform.

How many Data sources can you transform – while creating delta, detail, load, and report targets – Everything in one job and I/O pass?

Yes! And all of that will be done with CoSort’s Sort Control Language (SortCL) reached and optionally in the free IRI Workbench GUI managed, based on Eclipse™. SortCL is a self-documenting 4GL and data definition and manipulation program that is invoked from the command line, via batch, GUI, or your applications.

SortCL offers simpler coding with faster runtime. It's an alternative for data integration, staging, and reporting jobs in Perl, Python, and shell scripts, SQL procedures, legacy ETL and ELT tools, and programs written in C, Java, VB, etc.

BI/DW architects can invoke SortCL jobs within their existing ETL tool's command tasks to offload and thus optimize transformations. But for those who want to save time and money with a complete ETL package that takes advantage of SortCL's scalable performance and job consolidation, the managed, visual ETL workflow environment of IRI Voracity (Subscription) platform powered by CoSort and based on Eclipse.

You can also use CoSort sort plugins and API calls, or CoSort SortCL-Programs used to prepare (mix) large datasets through selection, sorting, merging, and aggregation. The results of CoSort operations routinely feed database load programs, analytic engines, BI tools and cubes, Excel, and custom applications.

Including: data masking and test data generation

For information security and compliance, CoSort can identify sensitive data, thereby minimizing security and governance risks posed by Personally Identifiable Information (PII). Powerful field-level data encryption and masking capabilities are built in SortCL integrated.

Transform and protect PII while still enabling access to your tables, files, and everything surrounding them. Create an audit trail to review compliance with privacy regulations.

SortCL metadata also works in IRI's data masking product FieldShield and the test data generator RowGen. Details:
