IRI FieldShield jobs function identically on all Linux, Unix, and Windows platforms. FieldShield jobs and library functions can be executed from:

  • API calls
  • Batch programs
  • Database applications
  • Command-line operations
  • The IRI Workbench GUI, based on Eclipse™

There are no restrictions regarding table or file sizes, or the number of columns or fields. Most FieldShield functions can be applied to more than 100 single- and multi-byte data types in these sources.

FieldShield is designed for structured fields in files and columns in SQL-oriented (relational) databases. ODBC drivers are required for direct access to RDBMS tables and many legacy data sources. Flat-file formats that FieldShield can protect directly (without drivers) include CSV (and other delimited formats), fixed-position text, LDIF, CLR and ELF web logs, Micro Focus Variable Length (MFVL), and Unicode. FieldShield also supports structured versions of MongoDB and Cassandra, as well as flat JSON and XML files, structured streaming, and the masking of Hadoop file data in IRI Voracity.

Excel is best supported by CellShield or DarkShield, though FieldShield support for Excel will come online with the next version of IRI CoSort (ask us about it). Licensing and Support Information

FieldShield backend development and production licenses for data masking and unmasking are provided for perpetual use (CapEx) on Windows, Linux, and Unix hardware. With FieldShield, you only pay for the number of on-premises or cloud hostnames where data masking is actually executed (the job-executing program is installed) and not for the number of users, data sources, cores, etc.

The license fees for the initial copy are between €22,000 and €30,000. Additional licenses are discounted if purchased simultaneously. Runtime and masking-only licenses embedded in ISVs are discounted in volume tiers (a full copy is required).

You may only need one license, but most people want more (see the FAQ below). Each hostname-specific license includes:

  • Any number of Eclipse-based graphical IRI Workbench Job Design and Management instances
  • PII Detection and Classification (plus DB, Flat File, and Dark Data/Document Profiling)
  • static data masking job wizards, diagrams, and audit trails
  • Re-ID Risk Scoring for FERPA and HIPAA Expert Determination Method Compliance
  • Support for dynamic data masking via callable programs or library functions
  • Support for multiple encryption key management protocols
  • Discounts on IRI CellShield EE and IRI DarkShield as well as credits for upgrades of the IRI Voracity platform (for total data management)
  • Complete documentation

FieldShield software maintenance (technical support and version updates) is free for the first year; after that, it can be optionally extended for 20% of your license fee.

The rented usage of FieldShield is available through IRI Voracity „total data management“ platform subscriptions (OpEx), which include support plus:

  • IRI CellShield EE and IRI DarkShield
  • Database subsetting with masking (or not)
  • Test Data Generation from Scratch (IRI RowGen)
  • Database and flat file migration, replication, ETL, data quality, and BI/analytics
