Inside the IRI Workbench, built on Eclipse™
FACT's simple configuration syntax and execution logs are available in the free IRI Workbench GUI, which is based on Eclipse™, is fully supported. The workbench is the same user interface as all other software tools and the overarching data management platform IRI Voracity, for which FACT is an option for powerful extraction.
FACT GUI users are quickly brought up to speed in the Overview and Getting Started sections of the welcome screen. From there, they follow interactive „cheat sheet“ steps to get started with FACT. Context-sensitive help and documentation cover installing and configuring FACT, as well as creating, running, and modifying jobs.
Functional job assistants automatically create FACT configuration files for regular unload jobs and for multi-table offline jobsReorganizations. The IRI Workbench is also where optional downstream Transform and Load metadata for Data Warehouse ETL, DB migrations, and VLDB reorgs are designed by Voracity users and executed in conjunction with FACT:
Remember that FACT also creates optional metadata for the Data Definition File (DDF) during extraction:
- The SortCLProgram in IRI CoSort and Voracity – for cleansing, integration, masking, and reporting of extracts
- Database loading utilities – to fill target tables (with pre-sorted data) for ETL, ELT, offline reporting, migration, etc.
FACT Jobs are run from the Workbench, from the command line, from Oracle Jobs Scheduler, the IRI Workbench Job Scheduler or other batch and other workload automation tools such as Stonebranch UAC executed.
Since FACT metadata and job scripts are created and executed in the IRI Workbench environment, they are (and can be) designed to be shared, secured, version-controlled, and otherwise managed in EGit and can be tracked by other repositories.
