FieldShield GUI

Use pseudonyms to de-identify individuals

Pseudonymization

To protect real names, places, or other values with realistic results, it is best to use a lookup value to assign fake, yet real-looking values to each source value. The IRI Workbench GUI for FieldShield supports Pseudonyms, which may or may not be reversible.

Apply the pseudonym replacement field rule to create a pseudonym field that uses values in a lookup file as replacements for the original values in a field. The original values are not discoverable.

FieldShield also supports the reversible use of randomly selected pseudonyms, as well as the creation of files or lookup tables that can be used to display and reverse pseudonyms linked to real values. This is done through the „Pseudonymize & Restore“ function in the target field editor.

Consider how you intend to use pseudonymized data in FieldShield and ensure you have enough unique names in your lookup set to match original values. You must also ensure that pseudonyms remain consistent from table to table to maintain referential integrity.; Here is the procedure.
