Metadata Management for Businesses
Share, track and reuse simple syntax in Eclipse
Since effective metadata management is key to proper data integration, cleansing, protection, and handling of data changes, a straightforward, unified metadata infrastructure is desirable. The following describes metadata management solutions for structured data processing in IRI Software:
The data management platform IRI Voracity and their products IRI Data Manager and the IRI Data Protection Suite use the same simple 4GL metadata for the layout and manipulation of the data and thus of course also the management of metadata.
Unlike the metadata in older platforms, the data definition file (DDF), access, explicit, portable, and cross-platform for all data sources and platforms, including Hadoop, the mapping task (job control) (.*CL), scripts, data class and rule libraries, and ETL XML project metadata (flow).
IRI metadata is represented in self-documenting text scripts that you can change and run anywhere. It is also in the IRI Workbench GUI support based on Eclipse™, where it is modeled in EMF, making it easy for you:
Create & Capture
Detect, Define, or Import and Convert Metadata
Modify
Display and modify source and column level attributes manually or in dialogs
Regulate
Definition, application, storage, modification, and reuse of rules that affect data in multiple places simultaneously
Save & Reuse
Local, remote, and third-party data cross-platform, project-specific, and in repositories
Remanufacturing
Data in Integration, Migration, Reporting, Masking, and Test Jobs
Tracking, Auditing, and Analysis
Management of data and metadata (provenance) and compliance with regulations by Forward and reverse operation, as well as graphical effect analysis
Standardize and Store
Metadata, master data values and formats (MDM metadata), as well as rules (for mapping, masking, or generation)
Manage and Share
Use Git or other Eclipse-compatible asset hubs for team sharing, version control, lineage, and security, or third-party data engineering platforms such as DataSwitch or Erwin Mapping Manager.
Did you know?
Data layout and mappingMetadata from IRI have been in use worldwide since 1992. It was developed for the Sort Control Language (SortCLin IRI CoSort (.scl Data Transformation and Reporting) jobs created.
It is now also in IRI NextForm job scripts (.ncl data migration), IRI FieldShield (.fcl data masking), and IRI RowGen (.rcl test data generation), and in many different IRI Voracity workflows, including for ETL.
You can also easily modify, export, and use these metadata in your application and many third-party data and metadata governance platforms.
Erwin Mapping Manager, DataSwitch and the Meta Integration Model Bridge (MIMBalso support IRI metadata. Their users can easily convert BI, CRM, ETL, and modeling tool metadata into IRI software's common metadata format. Those using DataSwitch or erwin with Voracity use, can also use state-of-the-art metadata lineage and reference data management tools in web views within a common Eclipse console, IRI Workbench, use.
