MDM problems

Master data quality and security

Challenges

Master data is information about products, customers, stores, and other general information. It's also the information in code and reference tables that many systems use. Master data, stored in special tables, is used across systems in the primary keys of data tables and is utilized in defining and executing modeling, migration, and cleansing rules.

Master data is the data that most requires attention to data quality. Because it is critical to so many systems and processes, poor quality master data can have a domino effect on all of your systems. Many companies therefore focus their data quality efforts on these areas.

Since master data is proprietary information for most companies, it also most likely requires field-level securityData maskingThis can particularly be the case if your company plans to centralize its MDM activities.

Solutions

The program SortCL, which is in the data management platform IRI Voracity or the standalone product IRI CoSort used, can help you cleanse and standardize master data elements (field names and attributes) that you have defined in database tables and flat files. Create reports to identify changes and state-related anomalies. Transform and format the master data itself, and provide new, reusable metadata for your master data in SortCL's simple syntax and repositories.

Use SortCL for basic tasks as well Data quality – such as duplicate and value-based filtering – to be performed quickly. SortCL’s support for custom, field-level transformation libraries allows you to leverage third-party data quality functions (like Trillium or Melissa Data). Integrate best-of-breed data cleansing capabilities directly into the above operations.

Since master data is often confidential, you may need field-level protection measures that both SortCL and IRI FieldShield (Data Masking) is provided. At the same time, transform and scrub sensitive master data with SortCL, and encrypt or mask it!

Use IRI software to manage, cleanse, define, transform, and protect master data. Simultaneously, create a complete audit trail that helps you monitor and review these operations.
